
I thought I’d try a new sock pattern but it said to use 2.5mm needles and 64 stitches when I usually use 3mm needles and 60 stitches … Fired up, I grit my teeth and gripped 5 sets of needles. Yep, I thought “You want a gauge check, I’ll give you 5!” I knit a 5 patches of 30 stitches wide … and got a bit of a shock. The difference is astonishing. I got my trusty old tape measure out and discovered that, for this new pattern, I must use 2.75mm to get the sizing shown. So not my favourite 3mm and not the 2.5mm advised.
